What initially drew you to work in a paint/workshop, and how did you begin your career here?

I started off refurbishing bespoke furniture and I liked seeing the process from start to finish. This made me want to look at bigger projects which led me to cars and then through to trailers and trucks.

What’s your favourite part of working in the workshop, and are there any aspects you find uniquely rewarding?

My favourite part is the challenge and I love the variation of skills I get to use here, whether it is fabrication or more recently fitting solar panels to Sunswap trailers.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I want to develop my skillset as much as I possibly can as I think you can always learn and improve. The job on the whole has become a much cleaner job and we are lucky at the Reefer Trailer Centre that we have a top of the range extraction system which makes the atmosphere as clean as possible. So I would like to stay in it for as long as possible.

How would you describe the general dynamics in your workplace? Do you find it supportive?

The team is incredibly supportive of each other and we all chip in to get the job done to the highest standard possible.

Have you faced any unique challenges working in a male-dominated environment? If so, how did you handle them?

The team can be very chivalrous which is lovely but also not needed. I enjoy doing anything the men can do and doing it just as successfully as them.

Are there specific ways you build rapport with your male colleagues?

We are lucky really, morale is usually very high and that means there is lots of banter which I really enjoy as it brings the team closer together.

Do you feel you bring a unique perspective or skillset that adds value to your team?

Definitely, my eye for detail is a big strength and I really try to go above and beyond to help my teammates if they are facing a challenging job or under pressure with time constraints.

What advice would you give to a woman entering this field?

Focus on developing your skills, don’t hesitate to ask questions, and build a network of supportive colleagues. Confidence and competence will help you overcome any challenges.
